Stella McCartney Brings the Fun, Games, and Shopping to our Downtown Seattle Flagship

We do love it when friends come to town—what better excuse to trick-out the sales floor and invite more friends in? We welcomed a passionate crew of oversized knit lovers and tailored suit enthusiastists for designer Stella McCartney‘s visit to our downtown Seattle flagship earlier this month, and to entertain them all: some good old-fashioned Coney Island-style fun and games.

What Christian Louboutin Did When He Came to Visit Us in Seattle and Vancouver, BC

Imagine the colossal honor of showing Christian Louboutin around town. That’s what we got to do—not once, but twice—when the esteemed footwear icon visited our downtown Seattle home base as well as our two-year-old flagship in Vancouver, BC.

While his main priority was spending time with the hundreds of red-soled fanatics that gathered in both cities to meet him and have him sign their heels, he managed to get in a few museum visits, some famed Northwest cuisine and a seaplane ride to boot.

As we promised back during Fashion Week when we got his must-visit list for Paris, we’re excited to share the places and faces that highlighted his time here.

Nordstrom Welcomes Hermès, an Olivia Kim-Curated Shop-in-Shop Only at Our Seattle Flagship

“Surrounded by Hermès silk spaghetti strands and pinching myself [that] this dream project came to life,” wrote Olivia Kim via Instagram early on Tuesday morning. The image she was captioning showed her standing in the newest must-snap selfie spot—smack dab in the middle of one of the brand new, ultra-modern and very cool design elements in Nordstrom Welcomes Hermès, a temporary shop-in-shop experience that she curated only for our Downtown Seattle flagship.

And really, we do mean “only.” Olivia’s Hermès edit is just in Seattle and not available online, and our collaboration marks the first time the nearly two hundred-year-old brand has co-created a dedicated home for exploring the colorful and expertly crafted extras that make it such a covetable name.

As you might imagine, that one-of-its-kind emphasis on men’s and women’s scarves, ties, and jewelry means there’s a beautiful and immersive selection of it all; there’s also an entire year to take it all in.

Let’s call it a cultural exchange.

On October 16, icon of all footwear icons Christian Louboutin is coming to Nordstrom’s downtown Seattle flagship headquarters; from there we’ll spend the next five days showing him around the Northwest, including a trip to Vancouver, BC. (And yes, we’ll definitely fill you in on all this in the days to come.)

Needless to say, we’re more than a little excited for the visit—his first to our neck of the woods—but since we’re currently camped out in his city, we asked him to give us a short list of personal must-hit Paris spots.

Each summer, Designer Preview offers a sneak peek of the season to come as we send the best looks from top and emerging designers down a beautiful runway on the Seattle waterfront. But let’s be clear here: This is not one of those torturous look-but-don’t-touch situations.

(Boyfriends are equally compatible; the show features men’s fashion as well!)

After the show—this year’s is July 28, tickets are available via our partner, Seattle Art Museum (until they sell out, that is!)—we transform the pre-show party room into one of the most amazing pop-up shops and that’s when the fun really starts.

Central to Mira’s collection, and her entire brand, is the idea that dressing should be fun—and that wearing fun, playful clothes can really change your life. When you get a chance to chat with her (as we did during Paris Fashion Week, for instance, and in this feature last year), she talks about how her pieces are real conversation starters, and smile-makers.

But now you don’t have to take our word for it …

Look Book: Gucci, CHANEL, Saint Laurent and More at Nordstrom Seattle

From outside our flagship store, in the South-facing picture window, a shimmery wall of gold-toned cutouts frame a new-season Louis Vuitton showpiece. Around the corner, CHANEL mannequins in airline chic (remember that show?) allow for just a peek through the glass to the handbags and accessories inside.

Inside, near the Beauty department, a striking image of Swedish actress Alicia Vikander carting one of this season’s hot Louis Vuitton Twist bags reaches almost as high as the ceiling. And down the way, the shop of iconic Gucci handbags is as vivid and alluring as the brand’s super-popular campaign images. And then there’s the ascent up the escalators: upon one’s arrival on the second floor, a studio of CHANEL apparel calls to mind the legend of Coco’s Paris apartment, while cool-girl looks at the Saint Laurent hideout coax an approachable nightclub vibe.

In short, with the addition of nine brand-new shop-in-shop boutiques, the in-progress remodel at our downtown Seattle flagship has lately yielded a gorgeous and inspiring trip down a high-style European avenue. May we offer you a guided tour?

Friends from the Floor: Why You Need to Get to Know St. John Now

“Friends from the Floor” is a series dedicated to sharing the latest product obsessions of our Nordstrom sales crew.

Lots of fashion followers know St. John as an American classic. Worn by Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail and Chrissy Teigen on the Met Gala’s red carpet, the collections are all about understated power suiting and powerfully beautiful knits.

But fashion followers might not know about the brand’s hands-on fabrication in California, its Casablanca-inspired color palettes, or its fresh and youthful appeal.

Felicia Stapleton, however, is fully schooled. Our Seattle St. John specialist just returned from an intensive course in all things knit, crystal-studded and refined, and we got her entire download—as well as a few words straight from Orange County and the St. John headquarters.

FOUR THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ST. JOHN

SPACE Jeweler Daniela Villegas Thinks We Have a Lot to Learn from Bugs

Nature always plays a role in fashion—designers draw inspiration from flowers, plants, trees and world travel, and those things and more show up in overt and abstract ways in prints and patterns. But every once in awhile things get even more specific. Remember how, for a time, there was a bird on everything? Yeah.

Insects certainly aren’t everywhere but they are omnipresent in the elaborately beautiful work of SPACE designer Daniela Villegas. “I love to use real elements from nature as good omens for the pieces, and as lucky charms. These elements are gifts from Mother Earth; using these treasures in my work is a way to celebrate and acknowledge how majestic nature is,” the Mexican-born jeweler told us.

She also told us how 1989’s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids informs her thinking, why she likes ants, and what she’s looking forward to about her Tuesday, February 2 date to meet with shoppers at SPACE in Nordstrom Seattle.
