Andrew & Keith | Real Weddings

In a serene, Woodinville winery, Andrew and Keith tied the knot in a deeply personal ceremony, surrounded by their loved ones.

Andrew, tell us about the location.

I had visited JM Cellars a couple times previously for wine tasting but upon visiting with co-workers about a year and a half from what would be our wedding day, I knew this place was the perfect wedding venue. It reminded me of where I grew up in Lake Tapps, WA. Right away my co-workers said, “You have to get married here!” and before I knew it they had found the events staff for me to talk to.

Keith and I visited together a couple weeks later and secured the location prior to even being formally engaged! The irony is that Keith doesn’t really care for wine, but we were both so taken with the space that he overlooked that small detail. A sense of calm came over us as we walked the grounds and tasting room. It made us feel like we were spending the afternoon at a best friend’s house having a glass of wine—which was the vibe we wanted for our wedding. We wanted our friends and family to just have a fun, relaxing evening, with plenty to see and do.

Monica & Ryan | Real Weddings

With their friends and family in attendance, Monica and Ryan became husband and wife in a romantic estate wedding in San Diego.

Monica, how did Ryan propose?

I love going to the Del Mar Horse Races and eating, so when he told me there was an event going on at the races where we could try tacos from more than 40 of the best restaurants and food trucks from San Diego, TJ and LA, I was in! After the races and taco eating, he told me he had to meet someone from work, which I totally believed. Apparently, the guy was “running late” so we took a walk on the beach and BOOM! There it was! A blanket set up with roses, candles and champagne. I was shocked and so excited! He got down on one knee and proposed. I don’t think I said anything, but I hugged him and he asked, “Is that a yes?” I responded, “YES!”

After the proposal we were supposed to meet his family for dinner, which had been planned for weeks. Little did I know that when I went to his parents’ to freshen up for the dinner, there was a surprise party with all our family and friends! It was such a great way to propose and throw an engagement party!

Melanie & Michel | Real Weddings

Inspired by the Los Angeles sunset, Melanie and Michel exchanged vows during an intimate, golden-hour ceremony, surrounded by their friends and family.

Melanie, tell us about the location.

We had a guerrilla wedding—meaning, we didn’t have any permits! We rented a big, yellow bus, ran atop a hill and just prayed for the best. We picked Bee Canyon Park in Grenada Hills based on quietness of the area and two giant trees right on the hill—a palm and a pine. We chose our reception venue, The Odyssey, because our original venue canceled on us eight weeks before the wedding! It turns out they had a sister venue in the area that was even more beautiful. We like to think The Odyssey chose us.

Gerrie & Zack | Real Weddings

At their very own English garden party, Gerrie and Zack tied the knot during a summertime ceremony that told their singularly Seattle story, surrounded by friends and family.

Gerrie, tell us about the location.

We were so lucky to celebrate at venues that embody exactly what we wanted our wedding to be: personal. I grew up in the Broadview neighborhood of North Seattle, and my dad stumbled upon the historic Dunn Gardens on a walk. It has the charm, transcendence and beauty of a European garden, yet still felt like my own backyard. I also attended high school at Holy Names, where we were married in a Catholic ceremony.

Jordan & Paul | Real Weddings

Surrounded by breathtaking wine country, Jordan and Paul became husband and wife in an elegantly rustic ceremony with unmatched panoramic views.

Jordan, tell us about the location.

We had always talked about getting married in a meaningful place—and for us that place was Lake Chelan [in north-central Washington State]. Paul and I both grew up vacationing in Chelan every summer with our families and have continued that tradition as a couple.

We chose to marry at Karma Vineyards because of its natural beauty and for the experience it offered our guests—from the panorama patio where our ceremony was held (complete with a 180° view of the lake), to the vineyard patio where we served homemade margaritas and dinner, to the wine cave where we danced the night away. We loved how Karma provided our guests with a new and beautiful setting at each stage of the evening—not to mention their wine and catering are some of the best in Washington! Emily & Gary | Real Weddings

In May, Emily and Gary exchanged vows along the sunny seaside of San Diego, surrounded by their dear friends and family.

Emily, tell us about the location.

I’m a Navy brat. I was born in San Diego and spent most of my childhood there. Growing up, whenever my dad was leaving or coming home from deployment, my mom, brother and myself would go to the harbor and watch his ship. There was no doubt in my mind that would be the location of my wedding. Gary also proposed further down the peninsula, overlooking downtown San Diego.

Katie & Sharif | Real Weddings

This past year, Katie and Sharif celebrated their nuptials with a classic winter wedding in the historic city of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Tell us about the location.

We got married in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Established 27 years before the United States, and located just seven miles outside of Washington, D.C., Old Town Alexandria is amazing for its history and charming streets. Old Town is a special place for us; when we were dating we enjoyed meeting here to try the amazing restaurants, walk along the shopping street, and watch sailboats pass by on the Potomac River. We like the small-town vibe, even though we’re on the fringes of our nation’s busy capital. Since our family and friends are spread out across the country, we wanted to invite everyone to see the place that we call home and where we plan to build our life together. We knew it would be a fun area for everyone to explore, and many of our guests took advantage of the opportunity to go sightseeing in Washington, D.C.

We held our reception at the Hotel Monaco. Since we had a winter wedding, we knew we would need to hold all of our events indoors, and the Monaco offered a great space. We had access to several rooms indoors, plus an outdoor courtyard where our guests could step outside for some fresh air during the reception, and our guests loved the hotel’s funky decor and boutique vibe. The hotel is known by Washington insiders for its restaurant, Jackson 20, and we wanted to treat our guests to a truly delicious dinner on our wedding day. We were not disappointed.

Jessica & Randy | Real Weddings

Earlier this May, high in the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead, Jessica and Randy tied the knot at a romantic creekside cabin resort, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Tell us about the location.

We knew we wanted to get married in the mountains from the moment that Randy and I got engaged. The mountains and the outdoors were always our go-to while we were dating, and of course, Randy proposed in the mountains. We knew we wanted an outdoor, rustic-elegant wedding, and Pine Rose was the perfect venue. Hidden Creek at Pine Rose Cabins is a secluded venue surrounded by massive trees, with a beautiful creek that runs into a pond.

Caitlyn & Alex | Real Weddings

At a Mediterranean-style winery, Caitlyn and Alex toasted to their future during a late-summer wedding that radiated with warmth and good times.

Caitlyn & Alex, Real Wedding

Tell us about the location.

We wanted an outdoor ceremony and reception, my husband is from the area, and we both love wine, so it only made sense to have the wedding at a winery! Tagaris is a special place for us. We would go there every time we were in town visiting family. They have a beautiful outdoor patio with a stage, bistro lights, fire pits, fountain…all the feels. Not to mention their wine and food are to die for! So Tagaris was a no-brainer; when we got engaged, we knew that it would be the perfect wedding venue for us.

Jenifer & Morgan | Real Weddings

Jenifer and Morgan held a rustic and spirited celebration at Robinswood House in Bellevue, Washington, where the gorgeous surroundings and weather still couldn’t outshine the bride and groom.

Jenifer and Morgan | Real Weddings

Tell us about the location.

We both wanted an outdoor venue since we were planning on getting married in August and wanted to take advantage of the warm weather! Morgan proposed in November of 2015, so when we decided on a summer wedding in 2016, the race was on to find something that had availability! What we loved about it was that it is this little enclosed oasis in the vastness that is Robinswood Park. I wanted a more rustic outdoor feel for the wedding, and this checked off all of the boxes. From the old 1895 homestead to the English garden for the ceremony, it just felt perfect for what I had envisioned.
