How Jason Wu Throws a Party, or Two: Grey Jason Wu’s Celebratory Launch

Some occasions are too important to fête just once. Take it from Jason Wu, the launch of a new collection is cause to celebrate again and again. On the advent of his new diffusion line, Grey Jason Wu, the American designer decided to host a series of dinner parties. Wu is a consummate entertainer. His elegant and lively functions usually include any number of New York artists, literati and fashion luminaries, inventive menus and impeccable decor. And, of course, gorgeous clothes.

Coolly feminine with a slight edge, Grey Jason Wu, his namesake designer collection’s sister line, is perfect for the New York society with whom Wu runs.

We got a glimpse inside two launch parties Wu has hosted to date—more will follow, we’ve been told—and a look at the comely guest list dressed in Grey. Additionally, the designer imparted some party hosting tips and a recipe for French vanilla bean ice cream—so good.

Do you have one simple tip for entertaining that you can share?

Make guests feel welcome. I think the best dinners have a great ambiance and are not too fussy. I love using creativity to cook and prepare for guests. Try to curate a meal that encourages guests to get involved.

Olivia Palermo + Chelsea28’s New York Fashion Week Party People

Every international fashion tribe needs a fabulous way to kick off the Fashion Week season, and for the editors, designers and stylists who gathered at the beloved downtown restaurant Indochine last night, the Olivia Palermo + Chelsea28 dinner provided all the elements of a perfect party.

Our collaboration with the international style icon is brand new now for spring, so Thursday’s party was both a celebration of modern wardrobe essentials and all that lies ahead in New York City this week. From stylist Rachel Zoe and Valentino brand ambassador Carlos Souza to Caroline Issa, who helped host a very similar Nordstrom collaboration kickoff this time last year, these were guests whose iCalendars are star-studded and show-packed. The beauty of the night and our guests is that they make it all look so chic and easy.

Kendall + Kylie’s Exclusive House Party in New York City

Getting ready for Kendall and Kylie’s pre-New York Fashion Week collection launch bash, I flipped on the TV in my hotel room and there they were. How funny, I thought, remembering that last time I prepared to interview the Jenners, the exact same thing happened in a different hotel room. But then I remembered that these women are on TV all the time. And now, perhaps the world’s most watched, most followed celebs will be in the mix with big fashion labels as the clothing and shoes from their brand-new line Kendall + Kylie go live at Nordstrom.

Which Kendall + Kylie looks were Kendall and Kylie wearing? And what tracks did DJ Flat White (you know, Virgil Abloh, Kanye’s creative director) play? Glad you asked.

Light In the Attic Record Store Party

Light in the Attic Record Store Party

We hit up the store launch party for Seattle record label Light In The Attic last week. It was an intimate and chill scene, packed with musicians, record collectors and audiophiles.

Sadly, we weren’t among the lucky winners in the evening’s LP raffle, but a Thai food truck and stripped-down set from Kevin Murphy of the Moondoggies more than made up for it.

Check out our photos from the party, featuring a solid array of beards, hoodies and flannels.
