Fashion Week Street Style Style

Scene Snaps: Australian Fashion Week, Resort ’19

Last week was full of sunny resort swim, but outside the runway, the looks told a different story as Aussie street stylers tried to predict the fickle Sydney weather. The result? The fashion pack’s best trans-seasonal style: layers, boots and blazers in springy, bright colors.

Have a flip through this glimpse of the fashions down under.

Rosetta Getty Resort 2018 collection Art Interviews Style

Bicoastal Designer Rosetta Getty on Dressing with Ease and the Artists Who Inspire Her Collection

Uncomplicated yet fascinating, wearable and aspirational, comfortable but so chic: Rosetta Getty may craft the wardrobe for our times. Amid the incoherent noise and incessant news updates, structured minimalism has never been more appealing. With her Resort ’18 collection, Getty has created an entire wardrobe with clean lines and sharp tailoring that seeks to impose order while also being fluid, flattering and colorful. These are clothes to seed peace of mind and even joy. Yes, it’s possible.

Inspired by the modern minimalist works of starchitect Richard Meier and borrowing her palette from the abstract expressionist Helen Frankenthaler, Getty’s angular tunics and dresses burst with originality in sunny hues and brazen primaries.

We spoke with Getty about her (many) artistic inspirations and what she usually wears around her stunning home in L.A. and out to functions on both coasts—now we’re looking to streamline our own closets with her cashmere sets and cutout dresses.

Three Questions for Ottavio Missoni

When it comes to powerful brand statements and instantly recognizable looks, Missoni is on top of the game. Those iconic patterns, the bold colors, the knits—the family!

Ottavio Missoni was born into it—in the town of Gallarate almost exactly 31 years ago (he just had a birthday on November 10). But of course, he earned those stripes and zigzags, too; at 23 he began an immersive journey into the world of textiles, knitting, fabrics and production, and from there: the whole world. Or, more specifically the United States. No one knows his family’s business in America better than he does. He understands what women from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. are looking for, and he knows what makes them feel their most beautiful—which is why we had him curate a special selection of silhouettes from the resort collection.

And while we had the chance, we got him to tell us a little more about his life and work.

Escada, New at Nordstrom

The elegant and timeless designs of Escada are now at Nordstrom! For over 35 years, this German-based brand has reinvented uncomplicated chic with rich color palettes and innovative fabrics that will take you from everyday to evening with ease. Daniel Wingate, Escada’s fashion director, reveals his inspiration behind the spring ’14 and resort collections.

“The main inspiration while designing the Escada spring/summer 2014 collection was a feeling taken from the Italian and French Rivieras,” says Daniel, who has been with the house of Escada since 2003. “For the resort collection this spirit then linked itself to a very soft and pretty color.”

Color Blocked: Escada Bicolor Stretch Wool Dress

When it comes to designing, Daniel says he’s on a mission “to make young women look sophisticated and to make mature women feel young.”
