Buying Straight off the Runway at Loewe During Paris Fashion Week

Not all the pictures snapped by front-row fashion people go up on Instagram. When VP of designer apparel Jennifer Wheeler has her phone out and is firing away, it’s so that she can review her favorite looks later and reference them in the showroom. On Sunday she and Sahar Sokhandan and Lauren Zimmermann, from the designer buying team, arrive at Loewe‘s showroom with several key runway looks at the ready.

In particular, the black-and-white look we actually did Instagram. (See, those ringside snaps aren’t necessarily for social media, but the really amazing ones are bound to end up there.) While Jennifer scrolls through her digital image bank and Sahar pages through the thick, glossy pages in a spiral-bound book that the brand provides, the beautifully appointed room provides context and inspiration and they begin to put their buy together.

Designer Pre-Fall ’15: the Five Best Trends

One could argue that the highest art of seasonal dressing is found during the transformative periods; those breezy weeks between sun-laden summer and full-on fall (and later, as the days grow longer, those days when winter draws to an end and spring busts out all over). This year’s pre-fall collections have finally arrived, and we’re sharing some of the best transitional pieces complete with commentary from venerable designers and the wise sages over at our designer buying office. There’s nothing quite like updated classics, a little retro fever and impeccable craftsmanship to put a little high-gloss on the in-between zone.

Pre-fall means pre-order, so ready your fingers for those irresistible buttons and check out our complete guide to Pre-Fall ’15.

Feeling Things at Ann Demeulemeester

Fashion Week Journal for Thursday, March 5

There’s a joke that isn’t a joke between a few of us here at Nordstrom, and it pertains to what happens inside these sometimes new, sometimes ancient rooms in which engineering, ideas, textiles and hard work come together in the form of clothes. That joke that isn’t a joke, written in the script of the day, is #feelings, and it’s what came to mind at the Ann Demeulemeester show at the Couvenet des Courdeliers.

Nashville Nordstrom, Country Music’s Most Stylish Couple and Stella McCartney’s Spring Collection

On Wednesday, January 28, an intimate circle of Stella McCartney fans gathered at Nordstrom Nashville to get a sneak preview of the coming season—and to claim first dibs.

Caroline Bryan, who happens to be country singer Luke Bryan’s wife as well as one of Nashville’s leading ladies, hosted the affair, channeling benefits to YMCA of Middle Texas after-school youth programs.

Key players from the Stella McCartney team were there to walk guests through the new pieces. But since we weren’t, we spoke with designer buyer Sahar Sokhandan about the spring collection and about exclusive in-store events like this one.

In the Studio: Nina Ricci

Join The Thread at the Paris-based maison of Nina Ricci, where we dive into the details of the spring/summer 2014 collection.

Let There Be Light: Bursts of sunshine fill the showroom of Nina Ricci, exposing glittering tweeds and ethereal fabrics.

Breakfast at Nina Ricci: C’est si bon.

Lovely Lace: The last looks presented on the runway now drape on dressmaker mannequins like works of art.

High-Tech Luxe: Sharp lines on this coat crafted from technical cotton hint at an historic period in men’s dress.

Pleats Please!: This timeless coat reveals an architectural nod to modernity with sleek, tailored pleats that add a preciousness to the construction.

Contrasting Textures: A lace skirt is fused with mirror embroideries, revealing a sparkling sentiment for spring.

It Comes Down to the Details: Crepe embellishments on the shoulders of this cotton jacket create a delicate and elegant effect.

Wardrobe-Ready: Peter Copping, the brand’s creative director, mixed pale hues and flashes of floral into his otherwise all-white palette.

Fields of Flowers: Layers of printed chiffon and subtle floral appliqués enhance the romantic mood of the collection.

A Canvas of Sophistication: Washed-out, watercolor floral makes an artfully feminine statement.

The Look to ♥: Our designer apparel buyer, Sahar Sokhandan, shares her thoughts on one of the standout looks for spring:

“What I personally love about Peter Copping is that he takes the thinking out of dressing. He makes it effortless. One of my favorite looks from the spring line is this extra-fine cashmere sweater paired with a pleated lace mini-skirt. It’s ultra-chic and luxe! I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t want to look like that.”
