Four of Our Favorite LA Bloggers and Vloggers Talk Style in Looks from The Kooples

Recently, some of the most stylish bloggers and vloggers in the LA area stopped by our Nordstrom The Grove store to get a look at the latest clothing from cool Parisian line The Kooples. We love seeing how people style outfits, and the dominantly black, leather and lace creations from this French fashion house exude attitude. Naturally we couldn’t resist staging a photo shoot while talking to Jenn Im (ClothesEncounters), Paola Alberdi (Blank Itinerary), Claire Marshall (HeyClaire) and Tania Sarin (tsarin.com) about finding style inspiration and what to wear now.

Paola Alberdi of Blank Itinerary at Nordstrom the Grove
Paola Alberdi’s Blank Itinerary is anything but. This style influencer is constantly traveling to some scenic beach or cosmopolitan European city. On her blog and Instagram account, you can follow along to see what she’s packing. Needless to say, she is perfectly prepared for every destination.

Paola Alberdi in The KooplesHow would you describe your personal and blogging style?

This is always a tough one. I would say my personal style is mixing highs and lows, combining basics in every way possible and also playing around with textures and prints every once in a while. I love to try out new trends and adapt them to my style and create my own.

What are your favorite trends this season?

Everything with suede, and wearing different tones of greys.

How do you describe the fashion environment in LA compared to other major cities/fashion capitals?

Ahh, LA is LA, where stars are born! Isn’t that the saying? In this city, we don’t really experience seasons, so I do believe the weather affects our fashion in some sort, but I wouldn’t trade the weather for the world.

How do you prefer to shop (online, department store, boutiques)?

It’s funny to see how over time, I now shop more and more online, yet there is nothing quite like trying things on and walking out with that shopping bag.

The Couples of The Kooples and the Future of Magazines at Colette with Susie Bubble

Fashion Week Journal for Wednesday, March 4

Yes, Paris Fashion Week is about the shows. But who goes to Paris without seeing the sights? No, I didn’t visit the Eiffel Tower, but I will be stopping in on some showrooms while I’m here because some fashion company headquarters are cultural monuments, too.

serge_kooples

And not unlike the Champ de Mars landmark, my first Paris Fashion Week showroom stop was also something of a romantic icon. The Paris-based brand The Kooples celebrates the sexes with modern, urban co-ed style—translated inside their homebase with marble, taxidermy, leather, and, notably, oversized black and white imagery of some of history’s chicest couples. Like Serge and Jane, above.

Street Style: Kerry Pieri at Emilia Wickstead

Kerry Pieri is back on The Thread and looking as cool as ever, despite the jet lag-inducing time difference. Kerry’s preppy blazer and fringed suede skirt are a unique but harmonious pairing. Snakeskin shoes are an emerging theme and have been massively popular this season. Looks like I need to find myself yet another pair of boots!

Street Report: Anouk at Chanel

Anouk Yve is back with yet another awesome outfit! Anouk’s urban-casual style is so on point with the season’s trends. Zippered leather skinnies are major at FW, and I like how she’s balanced their sleek edge with a preppy sweater and oversized oxfords. Extra-long shirting is new to the style scene, and I can’t wait to incorporate this look (and a new Chanel bag!) into my repertoire.

Street Report: Pernille at Stella McCartney

Pernille Teisbaek is no stranger to our blog, and for good reason! This Danish darling (Look de Pernille) has style for miles. I love Pernille’s willingness to try new trends while maintaining her personal aesthetic.

The thigh-high boot is one of the season’s top footwear themes, and this pair is quite wearable. The formal short is breaking onto the street-style scene, and if I wasn’t convinced before, I am now!

Interviews

The Kooples, New at Nordstrom

Alexandre, Laurent and Raphael Elicha, the brothers behind the his-and-hers hipster collection The Kooples, give The Thread the scoop on why women find borrowing from men to be très chic.

THE THREAD: There’s an artful precision to your Brit-meets-Parisian chic aesthetic. As your brand makes its mark in the U.S., which details, cuts and fabrications do you want customers to take notice of this season?

ALEXANDRE, LAURENT & RAPHAEL: They’ll notice how we combine traditional elegant tailoring with a rock-chic spirit. The Kooples revisits classics with a collection that’s rich in contrasting fabric, new shapes and large patchworks of patterns, all of which symbolize the house’s DNA. We’re rooted in self-expression and stylish looks. Some of our iconic pieces include the cotton shirt, the single-button suit, the double-breasted coat and the leather biker jacket, which are reinterpreted with refined leather details for a city-smart result—with a twist.

Parisian Persuasion: The Kooples Sheer Flower Print Blouse, Shiny Woven Jacket & Shiny Woven Pants

For the Love of Fashion: Models Alice Gomme and Adam Holden celebrate their five-month romance in the fall/winter ’13 campaign.

The style and allure of real-life couples are the highlight of your ad campaigns. What’s the criteria to be considered as a Kooples couple?

There are no criteria apart from love! When we started the Kooples adventure, the idea was to develop collections for functional couples that harmonize and complement each other mutually.

Nonchalant Cool: The Kooples Contrast Collar Jacket

What would you define as the essential items for building a his-and-hers wardrobe?

We define The Kooples’ silhouette by its effortlessly cool style with a Parisian twist. The Kooples unravels the traditional notion of separate men’s and women’s clothing and creates concepts that fuse and mingle the collections. The iconic piece of the house that we would definitely recommend in a Kooples wardrobe would be black leather. Perfecto!

Street Report: Angelica Outside Naeem Khan

Angelica says she’s not afraid to try new looks and trends, and she wouldn’t classify her style in any one category.  Today’s look has a punky schoolgirl edge, thanks to her heavy boots and black-and-red palette.  This young blogger is garnering a big following in her native Sweden, and it’s only a matter of time before she conquers the U.S., too!

Street Report: Jackie Outside Candela

Jackie has mastered the art of incorporating fall trends into a warm weather look. Her light layering and quilted leather mini-skirt hint at the season to come, but they also work in today’s high temps. As a TV personality, model and blogger, Jackie says Fashion Week is one of her favorite times of the year, even if she doesn’t get any sleep. I know the feeling!
