SPACE Brand Vejas: Making Waves at Paris Fashion Week

One of the best things about Fashion Week, no matter the city, is connecting with emerging brands on their way up. The first few collections of any one career become its foundation, after all. In the case of LVMH Prize-winning designer Vejas Kruszewski, it’s a matter of “building the values of the brand.”

That’s what he told W magazine in an interview titled, in part, “Meet the Five Young Designers Shaking Up Paris Fashion Week.”

When we met up with the 19-year-old Toronto-based designer a few days after his Paris presentation, he told us that those values are futurism, abstraction and utility.

Nordstrom Toronto: Model Ash Foo on Dressing Up in Her Grandparents’ Things and Gluten-Free Waffles

To celebrate the opening of our new store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre—it opens today!—we’ve been talking to some of the city’s model residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

Model Ash Foo

Model Ash Foo has walked in her share of Fashion Week runways (Naeem Khan, Vivienne Westwood, Lela Rose, Milly and more) and appeared in a number of international Vogue issues. But she’s most at home in Toronto, where her family resides. We caught up with the model behind the scenes of our shoot to celebrate the new Toronto store. She told us about her most-prized fashion possessions and the waffles she’s craving now in her hometown.

Nordstrom Toronto: Model Kirsten Owen on Toronto’s Hot Spots & Her Daughter’s Outfits

To celebrate the opening of our new store at Toronto Eaton Centre (September 16), we’ve been talking to some of the city’s model residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

Behind the scenes of our Toronto store opening shoot with model Kirsten Owen

With her sharp features, porcelain skin and direct stare, Kirsten Owen was a favorite face for many minimalist and avant-garde designers in the ’90s. She helmed Jil Sander’s campaign in 1990, looking like a severe Greta Garbo. She strolled the runway with her baby bump cradled in a creation by Yohji Yamamoto in ’92. Encircled by barbed wire, she walked in a young Alexander McQueen’s show in ’96. And, after several years away from the industry, she closed KENZO’s 2006 show and was the face of Givenchy’s 2008 campaign. Her classic good looks and mutability have made her a model to span generations.

We caught up with her behind the scenes of our Toronto shoot to learn about her favorite haunts in the city and what she’s wearing now.

Listen Up! Q&A with Majid Jordan Creative Director Jamie Webster

Photos by Regina Garcia

You’ve probably heard the modern, headphone-y pop music of Toronto duo Majid Jordan without knowing it through Drake: they wrote and were featured on Drake’s hit “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” and on “Legend,” he shouts them out, saying their album will drop this year on his label OVO.

While you’re waiting for that, peep their earlier work Afterhours and A Place Like This

Jamie Webster handles the entire visual presence of the group (Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman) as creative director, in between his creative director and partner roles at the Common Good production company and design studio and co-owning the bar Dog & Bear. He took us site by site through the insiders’ tour of Toronto that is the music video for “Forever,” which he directed.

“The idea was to provide their audience with a glimpse of Toronto through Majid Jordan’s eyes. Not the CN Tower or cheesy buskers at Yonge-Dundas Square. It’s not a Toronto tourist video. It’s spaces that are cool or have a significance to us. We see the way the city is depicted and it’s often way off the mark.”

Get to know Majid Jordan’s Toronto below.
