New York Fashion Week: It Bags with Caroline Issa

Yep, it’s that time again. In almost exactly one month, editors, buyers, models, and more will be disembarking planes and weaving their way through Manhattan as New York Fashion Week—the Spring 2016 edition—comes to life. And whereas Fall market—which takes place in February and March—is a sort of street style show set in the tundra where a killer statement coat is the key piece, this round takes place in an altogether more temperate climate. The key piece this September and October from New York to London, Milan to Paris? The handbag. We asked Caroline Issa to select one for each city over the next three weeks—and a look to go with them all, too. Let’s kick it off with Gotham City.

What to Wear to Nordstrom Designer Preview

Collections from top American and European designers are almost never shown together on one runway, but each summer Nordstrom pulls together amazing fall looks from Céline, Valentino, Lanvin and more for a best-of-the-best fashion show event known as Designer Preview. This year’s gorgeous parade is on July 23—on the epic Seattle waterfront—and as always, all proceeds benefit the Seattle Art Museum.

Among those expected in the front row: One of our favorite collaborators, Caroline Issa, and two of the most girl crush-worthy editors from Refinery29, Annie Georgia Greenberg and Paula Goldstein. Instagrammin’ style watchers will recognize Cara Van Brocklin from Cara Loren, Blair Eadie from Atlantic-Pacific and Wendy Nguyen from Wendy’s Lookbook—all flying in for the big event.

You’re invited too, of course—tickets are available via SAMS, Seattle Art Museum’s supporter group. The only question left to settle, then, is what will we all wear?

Kore Swim’s Best Summer Bets | Pop-In Goes Poolside

Jessica and Nicole Tracy, the sisters behind Kore Swim, can bring their notion of personal beauty and positive self image back to one simple phrase from a Jefferson Airplane song: “You’re only as pretty as you feel.” (The philosophy is right there on the So-Cal-based swimwear line’s About Us page.) And hey you know what? Same goes for a poolside summer:
You’re as fun as you can dream yourself to be, girl. So let’s do this.

The Tracy sisters before business plans and conference rooms were a thing

Jessica and Nicole gave us their download on summer’s best entertainment—and the poolside’s best looks.

What to Wear to a Pool Party | Pop-In Goes Poolside

The easy answer to summer’s impending question is not much at all, but it’s what you do with that little bit that sets the season’s best dressed apart from the rest.

This month’s Pop-In@Nordstrom is all about the deck—the tiled, floatie-strewn, beach-towel-covered poolside deck, that is.

In our dream world, the poolside is a place that mixes Old Hollywood regency with present-day realness and global style. At our poolside lounge, Marilyn Monroe and FKA twigs are BFFs. At the poolside, the sun is always shining, the watermelon is always freshly sliced and the DJ is just about to drop our favorite cut—which is a mash-up of vintage girl group doo-wop and Fresh Prince-era feel-good pop. And in this fantasy, everyone is rocking just the right look.

For the skinny on how to wear the best one-piece bathing suits, killer bikinis and more in 2015 poolside style, dive right in.

Ariel Beesley, a Behind the Scenes Chat with our Model of the Moment

ariel-beesley-the-thread

When Los Angeles-based model Ariel Beesley isn’t posing with a blow-up swan for Nylon magazine, she’s singing sweetly forlorn ditties with her ukelele at music festivals and on small stages. And when she isn’t doing either of those things, sometimes she’s modeling for Nordstrom. Lucky us! Check her out in shades by Illesteva and Oxydo. And here she is in the season’s best floral pieces, cool summer dresses and hot trends.

And here she is in an exclusive video, plucking the strings at our shoot—and telling us all about her favorite tunes, her grocery store hit list and her on-the-rise career—as a in-demand model and as a neo-folkie songstress.

What to Wear to a Music Festival, Hat Edition

‘Tis the season when we begin to spend multiple hours outside in the sun, sometimes forgetting to take care of our fragile human shells. You know, music festival season.

And not to be a huge bummer, but we should talk about sunstroke and sunburning.

These things happen. They are serious. And like dehydration, they are dangerously easy to allow. Please be careful out there, OK? Don’t wriggity wreck yourself.

Check yourself: Drink water. Wear sunscreen. And bring a hat.

If we may guide you, our whole collection of Brixton hats is worth your perusal. That’s the Sophia, above.
