Alexander Wang’s Kenze boot: $484.90 during our Anniversary Sale, $725 after sale

Says our designer shoe buyer John Langston of Alexander Wang‘s Kenze boots: “They have all the elements of fall’s best trends and they’re so identifiably Wang! They personify Alex’s spirit of individuality and the playful, romantic poet.”

How to wear them? Glad you asked. “This season, short boots act as a new alternative go-to option,” says John. “Skip the pumps and pair these with a myriad of looks—from a cropped carrot pant to an ankle-length straight-leg denim jean or a sleek pencil skirt.”

New York Fashion Week: Yigal Azrouël’s Dark Romance and Composed Demeanor, an Interview with the Designer

It’s a peculiar thing to go backstage before a runway show. The atmosphere is at once highly charged and quietly intimate—imagine arriving at a friend’s house an hour early for an incredibly important dinner party, if your friend was an artful chef and the guests were the world’s most important gastronomes. As I watched Israel-born Yigal Azrouël wind quickly and kindly between models just moments before his fall collection hit the floor, that was what I thought of. He tamed coifs, he straightened lapels, he was easy and calm and totally in control.

“I love to design with a strong, confident girl in mind,” he told me later via email, and on Friday morning I could feel him imparting that confidence to each of the women he touched. Later, after a beautiful show, he answered some questions about the darkly romantic looks he issued for fashion’s most important season.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2016: A Yigal Azrouël Lace and Architecture Lookbook

How to be at once Edwardian and new wave, floral and punk rock? How to balance delicacy and tough-as-nails grit? How, exactly, to rock a jabot neckline and neck-to-shin lace?

Street Style: Shiona at Carven

Shiona Turini is back yet again for another go-round on The Thread. Today’s ensemble is really cool and a bit conceptual. I am so into the sash skirt; it adds drama and great movement. The military base of this outfit is spot-on trend, but Shiona makes everything look totally original. Merci, ma belle!

Street Report: Luisa and Nicole Outside Blumarine

Luisa and Nicole are clearly fans of the black-and-white palette that has dominated the fashion scene this year. These two lovely looks are full of fun texture, pattern and accessories. Sleek mirrored sunglasses are a great accent choice, along with those gorgeous bags. The mixed stripes are right on trend for the season, as are the graphic fur and drop-waist skirt. Way to coordinate, ladies!

Street Report: Linda Outside Stella Jean

I can always count on Linda Tol to knock a look out of the park. This Dutch street style star has a unique perspective on fashion and a great sense of humor, considering she can’t walk two feet without a dozen photographers stopping her. Today’s ensemble is a great balance of relaxed cuts and fall textures. The tall boot is integral for fall, just like the graphic jumper. Until next time, Linda!

New York Fashion Week: September 7

We’ve tallied up the highlights from yesterday’s shows—from the boldly patterned catwalks of DKNY and Diane von Furstenberg to Opening Ceremony’s star-studded theatrical dramedy at the Met.

DKNY-2015-new-york-fashion-week-1

Celebrating New York City’s “color, culture and creativity,” DKNY underscored the Big Apple’s global-melting-pot status with vivid colors, graphic geometric patterns and kaleidoscopic prints—all atop voluminous silhouettes.

Runway Rundown: Yigal Azrouël

It’s not every day that a designer’s collection makes one think “Ooh, cozy!” and “Ooh, austere!” simultaneously. But Yigal Azrouël achieved precisely that today, displaying a mélange of supersoft mohair sweaters and coats alongside strict black dress that reached as far up the neck as they did down the ankles. The Yigal girl need not fear next winter’s windchills.

Azrouël also added some of his signature edgy details to the mix with patchwork-style prints, sheer paneling and zipper accents.

Street Report: Chriselle Lim at BCBGMAXAZRIA

The stunning Chriselle Lim (The Chriselle Factor) is no stranger to The Thread. She doesn’t let a little (or a lot!) of snow get in the way of style. I am so in love with Chriselle’s tough girl look. The moto jacket, the tall boots, the leather detailing…it all adds up to some serious attitude, but with class to spare. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this blog superstar!

Crystal
