Vogue’s André Leon Talley Gets Personal at Nordstrom
Sipping chardonnay and nibbling on macaroons with a world-renowned fashion editor is, for most of us, a once-in-a-lifetime experience (if ever). But for customers at Nordstrom at Green Hills last week, there were two of these opportunities in one day!
Vogue Contributing Editor André Leon Talley stopped by Nordstrom’s Nashville location for two events on December 6th, taking time to chat with customers, share stories from his years in the fashion business, and give the inside scoop on the magazine’s new book, Vogue: The Editor’s Eye.
The day’s morning event included a private luncheon for Collectors customers, where André treated his dining companions to anecdotes about his time at Interview and Vogue – including a particularly juicy tale about a photo shoot with the late Elizabeth Taylor, her storied jewelry collection and those famous violet eyes. It was a full afternoon as André answered burning fashion questions, signed copies of Vogue: The Editor’s Eye, and posed for pictures with guests. (Lucky them!)
Later that evening, André returned to the store to mingle with customers over cocktails and talk shop while models showed off looks from the various Resort 2013 collections. The famously opinionated editor spoke on current trends and his favorite fashion icons. Topping the list? Michelle Obama. “She just always gets it absolutely right,” he said of the trendsetting First Lady.
A tastemaker in his own right, André also picked out pieces from the Collectors department that struck his fancy, including a bright pink Marc Jacobs tweed dress and a sapphire blue shantung frock by Michael Kors. An Alexander McQueen umbrella and Chanel Versailles-inspired platform sneakers caught his eye as well. (And his personal go-to? UGG Australia boots in every color, of course!)
