The predominant male attitude on grooming and skincare is that they are optional. At least that’s what we hear from president of Kiehl’s and noted beard-wearer Chris Salgardo.
But imagine if Rob Lowe thought that way. There would be no Rob Lowe.
So in the interest of correcting this gross misunderstanding, Salgardo wrote Manmade, a book with grooming and skincare tips men can and should use right now–and which will keep them looking younger, longer. Perhaps you know a man who could use this in his life?
Salgardo told us all about the book on the phone. The conversation is below.
And if you happen to be in/near Seattle on December 11, meet up with Salgardo in our flagship store to talk about his book and knock back a cold one. The event is called, tantalizingly, Beards and Brew.
Our Classic Clam Chowder is actually quick and easy to pull together. This recipe–from our Family Table Cookbook and restaurants–is just the right thickness and isn’t stingy on the clams. All it takes is a bit of dicing, sautéingand gentle simmering, and about 45 minutes.
Itchy sweaters can be cool, but once you step into the golden fleece of the cashmere goat, you’re always going to need that softness in your life. As for what to wear with a cashmere sweater? Studio N stylist Chad Christensen offers these three looks. Please consider our full selection of complete looks a helpful style resource.
Two of our own facial-hair enthusiasts share their grooming tips and picks to keep your ‘stache from veering into unwieldy territory.
Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has been deploying state-of-the-art mustaches as conversation starters to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. The movement challenges participants to grow, share and get active. But to be inducted as a Mo Bro (or a Mo Sista supporting all her Mo Bros) requires following a few rules and knowing a thing or two about facial-hair care.
We enlisted a couple of our grooming gurus to help with rules: Gerald Grinter, counter manager for men’s fragrance in Seattle, and Sankil Ward, men’s accessories and furnishings manager at the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego.
Those rules are 1) start clean-shaven, 2) grow and groom for the entire month so you can reach your full mustachioed potential without breaking rule 3) no fakes, no beards, no goatees.
Gerald and Sankil will be sporting their own mustaches this month, along with members of their teams.
Here’s what you need to know and the products Gerald and Sankil swear by.
Without unraveling the space-time continuum or tricking out a DeLorean, we’ve made it to 2015. To celebrate Back to the Future Day, the day that Marty travels to in time to save his future family, introducing us to the hoverboard and the decades of disappointment that followed when it didn’t materialize, today we’re showing you how to get the Marty McFly look. Because as Doc said, if you’re going to do it, why not do it with some style?
Style notes: Somehow Marty predicted the perfect fall transitional look. You’ve got layers of outerwear, a comfortable sneaker and casual denim. Throw on some shades and you’re ready for awkward encounters, meathead bullies and flirty moms.
Whether you put it on for Back to the Future Day or as a Halloween costume, we think this outfit is pretty timeless.
