You know him from throwing the pigskin on TV, where he is simply one of the most electrifying quarterbacks to ever play the game. You know him also, perhaps, from his red carpet outings with the pop music star Ciara.

But did you know Russell Wilson is into fashion? Not only because he’s well-dressed but also because he has cofounded Good Man Brand, a collection of modern essentials made in Italy for guys who need to level up their style game.

During a public appearance at our Seattle flagship store, Wilson spoke with our own Pete Nordstrom about the philanthropic angle of his business, his perception of himself as a man dating up and the origin of Good Man Brand.

Where will you go in 2016? Perhaps after reading this blog post, you’ll consider a trip to Bondi (bond-eye) Beach in Sydney, Australia.

It’s definitely on our list after chatting with photographer Colin Tunstall—also the cofounder of the surf-inspired, casually luxurious brand Saturdays NYC.

Read our interview below with Colin about his recent Australian vacay/store opening with Saturdays cofounders Morgan Collett and Josh Rosen, and scope his photos of majestic yoga poses, killer karaoke and perfect waves.

umitbenanPeep this fire ensemble from Umit Benan, one of the newer designer brands acquired by our expert buying team. We’re feeling everything about Umit Benan’s Fall/Winter 15 Fisherman Collection–and this outfit specifically, from the cut of the pants and shape of the jacket, to that attention-grabbing banded collar shirt. Flawless victory, Mr. Benan.

Here’s Benan in an article our friends at Four Pins hipped us to, talking about the inspiration for the Fisherman Collection, influenced by growing up in Turkey and absorbing life in Bosporus Strait port cities:

“When you go down to the Bosporus, you see men, 50-60 years old, with big bellies and facial hair, wearing extremely colorful clothes. Yes, most of them are technical garments from brands like Nike or adidas, but I like this contrast between these masculine Turkish men and all these bright colors. […] It was just a childhood memory I wanted to share.”

anniversary

It’s nearly upon us, Anniversary Sale, the time when we make upcoming fall styles super discounted on our site and in our stores. Most sales work the other way, selling off dwindling merchandise. This is the opposite. That’s why Anniversary Sale rules. You definitely probably maybe know about it already.

Our Anniversary Sale starts July 17 and prices go back up again August 3. But how is your knowledge on Early Access?

Early Access starts July 9, enabling Nordstrom cardholders to shop the sale before everyone else. Early Access is just what it sounds like, a first crack at all of the Anniversary Sale items. On our site, you’ll see a yellow circle that says Early Access on the product page of the item you’re shopping. That’s how you’ll know.

If you don’t have a Nordstrom card, you’ll still be able to see Early Access items but only be able to add them to your Wish List.

So right now your possible actions are:

You know the Levi’s 501–the most classic jean in the history of jeans–and now it’s time to meet the 501 CT. The CT stands for custom tapered, a new fit which builds on the 501 and alters it only  slightly, but crucially.

We love it and think you will, too.

We learned all about the 501 CT on the phone with Jonathan Cheung, Senior Vice President of Apparel Design for Levi’s. He was reached at the company’s Innovation Lab in Eureka, CA–a place where new designs are created, displayed and fine-tuned. Cheung, in his dulcet English accent, described his environment as “a Large Hadron Collider.”

Besides the origin and story of the CT, we also talked with Cheung about Isaac Newton’s third law of physics, the future of denim and the 501’s unique “anti-fit,” among other topics.

When it comes to summer shoes, have you thought about going the patterned route? It’s kind of like wearing a loud shirt on your feet. Definitely a fun way to reconsider your outfit. Recommended for resisting anonymity.

These adidas Fluxes are very hot and a good place to start.

Dig a little deeper through our offerings, though, and you’ll find smaller, high-quality brands that your friends might not be up on–until you lace the function with conversation-starting footwear: California-based Thorocraft is worth checking out; so is Filling Pieces, out of Amsterdam.

We think you will find this relevant to your interests. Food news with a fashion connection. The Chicago Tribune has the story and Nordstrom has the video.

The story being: Chicago food & drink boss, perpetual suit-wearer and Men’s Shop Daily hero Donnie Madia has been honored by the James Beard Foundation as the year’s outstanding restaurateur. It is a major and well-earned earned accolade.

Not that you need to take our word for it, but we recommend his Chi-city establishments: Blackbird, avec, The Violet Hour, The Publican, Big Star, Publican Quality Meats, Nico Osteria and Dove’s Luncheonette.

And the video being: that one time we strolled with Madia while he meditated on style and the power of presentation, qualities which overlap in his professional and personal lives.

The Tribune referred to Madia as “resplendently dressed.”

Not an accident.

Check out this jewel from the 1989 Nordstrom Brass Rail catalog: two wild & crazy guys having a good vibe in a dubstyle, skating, hand-standing.

What does that face say? This is a semi-precarious situation. But don’t worry. We’re party professionals.
