Shooting GQ + Sightseeing in NYC

One of our Creative Directors, Strath, flew to rainy/sunny/steamy New York City a couple weeks ago to shoot our second edition of GQ Selects. A denizen of the Big Apple himself for many years, Strath knows all best spots—as you can see from this excerpted Instagram journal of his travels.

“Billboard in Chelsea, advertising the excellent Richard Avedon show at Gagosian Gallery through July 27.”

“Celebrity sighting no. 1: graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister at Pastis.”

“Celebrity sighting no. 2: David Byrne riding his bike through Soho.”

“The classic: Eero Saarinen‘s TWA terminal.”

“My favorite hidden Soho coffee shop, Rabbits.”

“Hotel room at The Standard. That’s Diane von Furstenberg’s apartment in the background.”

“View of the High Line from my hotel room. Back in Seattle, we’re excited that the same designer who did the High Line will be designing the new Seattle Waterfront.”

Alright, enough sightseeing. On-set with the GQ team.

Racks on racks.

The GQ styling team knows their watches.

Fall textures.

Good old-fashioned New York hospitality.

Quotes and photos by Strath Shepard.

Until next time: Go behind the scenes at last month’s GQ shoot, and shop the 16 Fall essentials we selected from the August issue.
