Sub Pop Picks: A1 by Darkside

“Darkside is a recent collaboration between electronic wizard Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington. Jaar has made quite a name for himself in electronic circles over the years by twisting genre boundaries, but Darkside finds him exploring something a lot fuller and quite a bit groovier than anything on his previous records.

“It’s a slow groove but there’s something incredibly effective in its relentless, somewhat plodding pace. It’s the kind of song you’d want to play on your iPod while walking through an urban landscape at night.

“It’s incredibly cool (in every sense of the word) and more than a little sultry. If someone were to make a movie where Rick Deckard from Blade Runner, Rick Blaine from Casablanca, and Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever all got together to fight crime on the streets of New York, this track would definitely be the theme song.”

—Tony Kiewel, Head of A&R, Sub Pop Records
