Gifts for Her

Giving the perfect gift is right up there on the list of things that feel amazing, but it just got even better. Nordstrom is now donating 1% of Gift Card proceeds to our nonprofit partners. That means when you give, you give twice. You give powerfully.

We believe in connecting with and empowering the communities we are part of, so we’re thrilled to be supporting organizations that positively impact our cities. As part of our 2015 focus on youth and kids, your Gift Card contributions will help Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Clubs, Special Olympics and other like-minded enterprises as they literally change the world.

The Nordstrom blogs team has been poking around the vaults for a while now; hopefully you’ve been digging the Throwback Thursday series, and hopefully you won’t mind this special—and early—holiday edition.

The thing is: while thumbing through our 1975 ‘Gift Selector,’ it really hit us. There are things in there that we’d still actually dig unwrapping ourselves and giving to others for the holidays. In fact, it was a pretty hard list to narrow down, but here are the top 15 gifts we’re vibing on for friends and family, guys and gals; ironic, iconic and otherwise.

1. These oversized sunglasses and some versatile silk scarvesso many ways to wear them.

In what we hereby declare to be a Nordstrom Men’s Blog Christmas tradition, we are pleased to present a new collection of photos from our annual December Lingerie Catalog. At the risk of repeating our advice from last year’s installment, we stand behind such items 100% as a valid and in fact thoughtful gift for your significant other—however ONLY as the icing on the cookie, once your G-rated gifts like sweaters, watches, knives and dogs are already under wraps and under the tree.

Keep reading for dozens of unreleased lingerie shots that you won’t see anywhere else—plus insights on the topic of gifting intimates from a female perspective.

Save Christmas with a Cozy Sweater

Swing by your nearest Nordstrom today to pick one out—maybe toss a diamond watch or a Darth Vader Pez dispenser in the gift box with it—and suddenly you look like a pro at this whole Christmas thing.

Keep reading for seven sweater picks from our catalog stylist Stacey Cunningham, plus tips on matching them perfectly to your lady-friend’s winning personality.

Gentlemen, have you seen the holiday video above (which we’re proud to say our compatriots here at Nordstrom HQ recently filmed QUITE handily)? It might be the first romantic comedy in years that we’ve thoroughly enjoyed, in spite of the uncomfortable truth that it conveys: Women are better than us at nearly everything—including giving Christmas gifts.

Our male protagonist delivers knockout gift after knockout gift: boots, jewels, burgers. And yet, his better half still one-ups him in the end. It’s likely that your wife or girlfriend will win at Christmas this year as well—not that it’s a competition—but to minimize the thoughtfulness gap, we asked a cross-section of stylish, intelligent (and yes, picky) women at Nordstrom’s Seattle offices to share what’s on their own wish lists this year. Follow their advice, and you can at least take pride in being a good loser:

Dear male readers: We know we’ve devoted a good amount of real estate lately addressing the women in your lives—please understand it’s only because we want you to receive the best gifts of all time this holiday season. But let’s be honest: Women are more responsible than us men (an unfair fact of evolution), and most likely finished their holiday shopping days if not months ago. With Christmas Day looming, the realm of last-minute gifting falls pretty squarely into the lap of the male population. We gave you some great ideas for her yesterday; today, we’re happy to bring you timely (in more ways than one—you can still buy online with free Xmas-Eve shipping) options for the dapper dad, favorite brother, or deserving son whose name still lingers on your (by now, hopefully dwindling) gift list.

We’ll avoid any cliché jokes about naughty, nice, and that classic, slightly creepy ‘Santa Baby’ number, and get straight to the point: Lingerie and loungewear make for a personal—and perfectly appropriate—last-minute addition to your wife’s or girlfriend’s holiday haul. A few points to consider:

Finishing Touch—Given that such items fall under the category of ‘win-win situation,’ make sure you’ve already done your homework and compiled a few gifts that are unadulteratedly all about her (think boots, bags, jewelry…see our Top 10 Gifts for Her post if you need ideas). Lingerie should be icing on the cake, not the only gift you give.

No Pressure—You still have a couple days to order gifts online and have them shipped (for free!) in time for Christmas. And even as late as this weekend, you can buy online and pick up in-store.

Use Discretion—Depending on what you choose (and whether you’re hosting children or grandmothers Xmas morning), you might nestle these presents under her nightstand, rather than under the tree.

That said, scroll down to browse favorites from our Holiday 2012 Lingerie Catalog, conveniently organized into 3 categories to help you choose:

1. Something to Lounge In. Does she love curling up on the couch for all-day movie marathons? Is the robe she wears during her morning ritual of coffee and the NY Times crossword starting to unravel? Does she love wrapping up in your favorite shirt Saturday morning (not that there’s anything wrong with that)? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, this is the category for her.

From top:
In Bloom by Jonquil Satin Nightshirt
Kensie Thermal Knit Romper
Oscar de la Renta Velvet Robe

2. Something for the Boudoir. If she’s ever complained that all she has are frumpy sweats—or occasionally ambles into the bedroom with a glass of champagne in-hand—try something slinky that’s meant for your eyes only. Tip: If she has a tomboy side, boyshorts will make her feel right at home catching up on DVR’d Dexter with you from the comfort of your pillow-top.

From top:
In Bloom by Jonquil Pleated Chemise
Honeydew Intimates Babydoll & G-String Set
Hanky Panky Boyshorts

3. Something “Functional.” We don’t have to tell you that a high-quality brassiere does more than just look nice. Invest in a beyond-basic bra on her behalf, and she’ll think of you all day every time she wears it. Be sure to check the size on her current favorite for reference—it’s not snooping, it’s research—and keep the receipt handy in case she’d like to switch.

From top:
Natori Plunge Bra & Thong
Simone Perele Demi Bra & Tanga—Made in France
Josie Retro Bra & Garter Thong (with Wolford Thigh-Highs)
