The outcome of Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will certainly be measured in points–though in the larger game of life, you could argue that the true winner will be the team with the fewest concussions. But there is another competition afoot: Which player will have the illest shoes?

We spoke about what to expect on Super Bowl Sunday with Marcus Rivero, aka Soles by Sir, the custom-footwear king of the NFL. The Miami-based painter and designer says his shoes will be worn by players on both teams on February 1. Sales have been good since his status spiked this month after Instagramming a pair of gold-flake cleats commissioned by the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch, which were instantly banned by the NFL.

Apparently there’s some league rule we don’t understand about shoes needing to match the color of uniforms. But we do understand banning a shoe is a sure-fire way to make it legendary and Rivero says business is better than ever.

As proud as we are to have Nordstrom’s hometown of Seattle represented in this year’s Super Bowl, we have to admit: The Seahawks couldn’t ask for a more worthy adversary than the Denver Broncos and their legendary leader, 13-time Pro-Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning. Our favorite thing about Manning? Despite being extraordinarily competitive on the field, he happens to be totally hilarious when he’s off the clock.

Keep reading to see classic photos from throughout Peyton Manning’s illustrious football career—from the University of Tennessee Volunteers to the Indianapolis Colts to the Denver Broncos—plus our favorite clips of his other true calling: comedy.

Love him or hate him, outspoken Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has been the talk of the town since last Sunday’s Super Bowl-clinching win over the San Francisco 49ers. And by “town,” we don’t just mean our Nordstrom HQ home here in Seattle—we mean every media outlet from Sports Illustrated to CNN, plus the millions-strong, rant-happy Twitter-sphere.

Maybe we’re biased, but we’ll come right out and say it: We love this guy. And not just because he thinks nothing of busting a move with the Seattle Sea Gals after a big play (as pictured above).

Keep reading to see why Sherman’s football IQ far exceeds his smack-talking skills—plus, read a Q&A with the co-founder of Strideline socks, our favorite way to rep Seattle pride.

Crumbled chips and canned queso dip? Never again. Whether you’ve got a vested interest in 49ers vs. Ravens (we’re holding out for a Seahawks Super Bowl in 2014), or you’re just in it for the commercials, let’s all agree to raise the bar on football food.

Here’s a new recipe from our very own Nordstrom Restaurant team. This one comes from Chef Peter O’Keefe, who leads the kitchen at our Blue Stove restaurant at the Nordstrom store in Thousand Oaks, California (where the menu is small plates / tapas style—other locations include Santa Monica and Burlington, Massachusetts).

Grab the ingredients today—along with some high-end canned beers to quench the heat from the jalapeños—and tune into CBS at 3:30 PST tomorrow for Super Bowl XLVII.
