What to Wear

fourthofjuly3With the Fourth of July nigh and men all over wanting to dress for the occasion, check these four different outfits created by our crack team at Studio N–aka the secret warehouse which creates much of our in-house imagery. One overarching guideline from stylist Morgan Dillon:

Don’t be cheesy. Carry the aesthetic of the holiday in a non-obvious way.”

These images, while being Fourth-focused, are also early peeks at the summer edition of Nordstrom complete looks. What are those, you ask?

Seasonally-fresh outfits which Studio N regularly updates on this section of our website. We think you will find them instructional and inspirational. You can sort our complete looks by:

What we’re trying to say is: Don’t sleep on the complete looks.

Rhythmedit2Last time our photography/style team Studio N told us what to wear to the beach, they GIF-ed up an animation that inspired us to mix beach gear with our street clothes, and introduced cool brands like Ambsn.

Now they’re at it again. This time their focus is on the Australian/European/American brand Rhythm. It’s a surfing and a lifestyle brand. We’re especially feeling Rhythm’s floral/stone shorts, above. And we’re not mad at all that the name made us re-listen to DJ Quik’s Rhythm-al-ism.

Check the rest of Studio N’s Rhythm-specific editorial images, below.

How to Wear Print

haspel

Maybe you’re nervous about wearing a printed thing. Maybe your thoughts are along the lines of:

It’s too loud. It’s too much.

We hear you. But if you allow yourself to get into print gradually, by wearing a printed backpack or holding a bag with some attention-grabbing graphics, you’ll quickly realize everybody makes some favorable comment about your printed thing. And why? Because most men dress incredibly boringly.

And here you are saying something. The fact that you are saying anything at all makes you front page news.

As for what to say–which printed pattern and where you’ll sport it on your person–that will come to you once you’ve got your mind right.

We’re here to help. Get into the wild world of print with our Men’s Shop video, below.

what-to-wear-this-summer-white-zanerobe

Especially when it’s hot out, we’re wearing white/bleached/blown-out colors. And as always, comfort is a must. To those ends, this sunny season, catch us in a crisp Zanerobe shirt and/or a pair of the Australian brand’s jeans, jogger pants or shorts.

That’ll be us at BBQs and on OPBs (other people’s boats), Zan-ed up, Zan-ed out, bumping Soulja Boy’s “Zan With That Lean.”

We’re loving the whole slouchy-yet-clean aesthetic.

One more note about Zanerobe shorts: we’ll have the “Sureshot” chino in heavy rotation for a few months, here. But we keep eyeing those perforated leather joints, as well–seen above and linked below–thinking maybe this is the year we lace ourselves with luxury shorts.

pattern2
When it comes to summer shoes, have you thought about going the patterned route? It’s kind of like wearing a loud shirt on your feet. Definitely a fun way to reconsider your outfit. Recommended for resisting anonymity.

These adidas Fluxes are very hot and a good place to start.

Dig a little deeper through our offerings, though, and you’ll find smaller, high-quality brands that your friends might not be up on–until you lace the function with conversation-starting footwear: California-based Thorocraft is worth checking out; so is Filling Pieces, out of Amsterdam.

What to wear for spring? How to rock spring shoes? In this series we’ll look at five spring shoes and show you two ways to wear each, with guidance from our Men’s Styling Manager Danny Mankin. Because life is better with options.

Here’s the thing about blue: it goes with blue. Of course not all blues are equal, but if you’re in the general sphere of light blue or dark blue, feel free to add layers within that category. Don’t worry that the blues aren’t exactly the same. Khaki goes with everything, too, and the colors look great together. Boat shoes look horrible with socks; don’t ever do it. But nobody has to know if you’d rather wear no-show socks. Because sweat does indeed happen.”

“This is a sockless shoe, period. And it looks great with a trouser or a short. As the weather warms up, swap out your wools for cotton and linen, like these pants. And if it’s hot enough–and you feel up to the challenge of looking dressy while still wearing shorts (you can do it!)–consider a tailored-fitting short and long sleeves. This choice allows you to roll up your sleeves and unbutton your shirt for a more casual situation.”

3 Ways to Wear Jogger Pants

how to wear jogger pants feet

All images by Barb Penoyar and Studio N

From Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade to rapper Kendrick Lamar to our friends at Street Etiquette, men everywhere are sporting the crucial evolution in trousers known as jogger pants. And it’s easy to understand why.

Besides being abnormally comfortable (many have elastic at the waist as well as the cuffs), they cut a lean, tapered silhouette that shows off your favorite shoes, without pesky concerns about rolling or hemming your pant leg.

Keep reading to see three ways to wear them: on the weekend, at the office and for a date.
