Bridesmaids

Today, we’re excited to bring you a guest post from our newest collaborator, Rustic Wedding Chic!

When thinking of hosting a rustic wedding, it is important to remember that you don’t have to skip the glamour just because you are selecting a rustic location. Venues like barns, vineyards, farms and lodges are beautiful backdrops for a rustic chic wedding, and they work perfectly with more dressed-up looks—for both the bride and the bridesmaids—for a one-of-a-kind event!

We’re featuring a new Adrianna Papell bridesmaid dress again this week, because—we admit it—we’re obsessed with the idea of a glamorous wedding party in these long gowns!

The beaded pattern on this dress is simply stunning, as is the super-soft pastel shade called ‘Mist.’ We think it works best with silver accessories, like thin Nadri bracelets and a single-strap sandal. Add a ribbon-and-gemstone head wrap for a bit of Great Gatsby flair!

A certain shade of purple is getting a lot of attention these days! Radiant Orchid has been announced as the Pantone® Color of the Year for 2014, and everyone in fashion, home decor and (of course) weddings is talking about it.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says this about the hot new shade: “Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” Yep, we’re charmed, all right!

Even though the current reign of Emerald still has a couple weeks, we couldn’t wait to start thinking of our favorite examples of this “harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.” See our picks below, and look out for more in 2014.

Tianna and Teddy’s big day was a gorgeous, modern affair, clearly filled with a lot of love–and plenty of fun too!

The Scene: October 5, 2013, Sunset Room at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD

Teddy’s and my vision for the wedding was to make it simple yet elegant. We wanted a wedding that represented us as a couple.

In keeping with the season, our wedding designer, Pamela Beard from Art of Wow, filled the space with beautiful fall flowers and colors, lots of oranges and yellows. She incorporated my favorite flower–the stargazer lily–as well as other fall flowers like spider mums.

It was a morning ceremony, and we wanted everything to be bright, light and airy. Windows surrounding the entire area where the ceremony and the reception were held allowed natural light from the sun to come in, and our photographer was able to capture beautiful pictures.

The day of, everything was organized and started on time and just flowed so nicely.

My Look: I wore the ‘Nadia’ gown by Rosa Clará. The color was a natural white with a strapless sweetheart neckline and asymmetrical organza layers. I accessorized it with a belt by Cara.

I kept the rest simple with diamondlike teardrop earrings and a bracelet. My hair accessory was the ‘Elle’ flower hair clip by Nina. I believed that my dress was a statement in itself and I didn’t need a veil or a lot of jewelry.

My Wedding Stylist: Stacey Kallenberg, Nordstrom Wedding Suite at Tysons Corner Center

Throughout this process I learned that the one thing that has got to be on point is your dress! I really appreciated that Stacey took the time to get to know me, where my wedding would be held and at what time of day, the types of dresses I liked, what Teddy’s personality is like…all that was discussed before selecting the dresses, trying on various styles and seeing what looked really beautiful on me.

Having that discussion helped to narrow down my options. The great thing is that the stylists told me about an upcoming Rosa Clará trunk show. Stacey didn’t want me to be too eager and wanted me to see other dresses! She was right–I made my selection at the trunk show event and I felt amazing.

When I started crying, I knew that THIS was my dress. I felt like a bride and I knew that Teddy would love the dress.

The stylists were amazing and very helpful, professional but personable and honest. In this business you have to be, because it is such an important day for a bride!

Our Special Moments: One of my favorite moments was walking down the aisle, seeing Teddy at the end and all of the people, the flowers and how beautiful everything looked–but most importantly the look on his face. It was amazing! I felt like I was walking through heaven.

We’ve been a bit obsessed with ruffled details lately, what with our recent posts about our favorite gowns, bride Jodi’s wedding dress and now our styling of a new bridesmaid dress decked out in ruffles!

HeroWe can’t help but love this frilly frock from Adrianna Papell. The cascading ruffles are fun and flirty, while the strapless neckline and maxi length bring elegance to the overall look. Plus, the angle of the ruched sides create a figure-flattering shape.

We chose the blush color to match a strappy Jimmy Choo sandal, vintage-inspired cluster earrings and a glittery butterfly-shaped clutch. Mixing metallics—rose gold, gold and silver—works here because all three complement the soft tone of the dress without overpowering it. We’d gladly be bridesmaids in this style!

Jen and Chad’s beach wedding in Florida was full of laid-back charm. Read on for their big-day details, as told by Jen.

The Story: Our relationship began 10 years ago, when we met at a mutual friend’s college party. By the end of that night, my number was programmed into Chad’s phone as “wifey”! We spent our last two years of college attached at the hip and never had a dull moment when we were together.

After school we went our separate ways but later found each other again in Chicago. We have been enjoying each other and the city ever since!

HeroThe Scene: April 13, 2013, Pink Shell Beach Resort in Fort Myers, Florida

We wanted our wedding to be an elegant and fun beach affair. We mixed the casual setting of the beach and hotel with a more formal Chicago reception feel that Chad loves.

For decor, there were so many special details provided by my maid of honor, who is a designer. We had personalized program fans, coasters and bags of saltwater taffy for the guests.

There was a signature drink bar including Bay Breeze and Hurricane cocktails recommended by me and Chad. Peach was our accent color, used in the bouquets, menus and programs, striped straws and our taffy!

We kept the attire casual, with my bridesmaids in short chiffon dresses from Donna Morgan (in Peach Fuzz) and the men in tan suits with no ties. And everyone was barefoot!

My Look: My wedding dress was a Nicole Miller silk crêpe de Chine strapless gown. I wore my hair loosely tied to the side, accented by a skinny crystal headband and simple earrings.

My Wedding Stylist: Amie Kesler, Nordstrom Michigan Avenue

I couldn’t have had a better experience with Amie! Prior to my first dress consultation I had e-mailed her a picture of a Nicole Miller dress that was my top choice. Upon my arrival, Amie informed me that there was a sample of the dress on sale—it was a couple sizes too big, but after trying the dress on with it clipped back, I couldn’t resist it!

Nordstrom’s alterations department turned my dream dress into the perfect fit. Since it was under my original budget, I was able to buy beautiful accessories to complement it!

Our Special Moments: Chad and I were truly touched by how many friends and family flew across the country to see us get married on the beach. My mother, stepfather, brother and his family have all relocated to Fort Myers, so this is our home away from home. Our other friends and family live either in Illinois or elsewhere throughout the country, so it was a special moment for us both to walk out that day and see 90 friends and family members waiting for us to have our dream wedding on a beach.

We ended the night on the dance floor in a room overlooking the ocean and stars! It doesn’t get much better than that!

It’s officially mid-November and we’re getting into the holiday spirit! We’ve been seeing shades of red everywhere this time of year, and the version we’re really loving right now is true, bright red.

We’re inspired by the way this classic color appears in nature—as in red roses and fresh strawberries—and in weddings, such as Vera Wang’s red dress collection or a party of bright bridesmaids.

Whether you’re getting married around the holidays or you just love the eye-catching, happy color of love, check out our wedding ideas below. Think about dressing up a white wedding dress with a red shoe or statement necklace, or incorporate red into your beauty look with a bright lip or bold nails.
