For the second season in a row, we’re counting down the crucial pre-Christmas shopping days with a series called Gifted Givers, in which friends old and new share their thoughts on stylishly spirited giving and receiving.
Designer, newlywed, force of positivity and unicorn lover, Hayley Paige is today’s gifted giver. After hearing her answers to our gift-related questions, we couldn’t help but wish we could find a way onto her recipient list. At least we can all be inspired by her gift-giving prowess and shopping while schnapps-ing philosophy.

What stands out as the best gift you’ve ever given?
I am pretty confident the one I am giving to my husband this year is the best. So, dear husband, if you are reading this, stop now! The rest of you can carry on. I made him an oversized comic book illustration incorporating our wedding into a famous Star Wars scene…along with tickets to opening night of Star Wars: The Force Awakens of course! Nerds, we are.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
Barbie dream house! Hands down. Rarely can you top the enthusiasm and sheer bliss emitted by a six-year-old girlie girl on Christmas morning.
Do you have a holiday shopping strategy?
A computer screen, my unicorn onesie and a hot cocoa with a kick of peppermint schnapps. Festive, cozy and crowd-free!
What’s the weirdest or most extreme thing you’ve ever done to create or secure the perfect gift?
My mom loves the movie Dumb and Dumber and would always talk about how she used to have a pair of goat-hair boots similar to the ones that Jim Carrey wears in the movie. So I tried calling the production company, numerous film wardrobe houses and even the people from Planet Hollywood to see if I could purchase the exact pair of goat-hair boots for her (there were even a couple fake accents thrown around on my end). Needless to say my efforts were unsuccessful, and I settled for a knockoff pair on eBay!
What is “the perfect gift” anyway?
In this day and age, everything is so accessible; when you want something, you typically just go out and get it rather than waiting for Santa. I think this makes for a better Christmas because people are more focused on doing something truly unique and fun. You want to give something that only that one person would appreciate the most. The perfect gift in my book is humorous and creative.
What makes for the ultimate in giving or receiving?
The reaction/emotion! That’s what validates and gives ultimate value of love to both the giving and receiving.
What’s your go-to host or hostess gift, either for a party or for a weekend or extended stay?
Booze. Of any kind. Although, if you want to stay fancy, I recommend a specialty mulled wine or spiked nog.
Feel free to allow us to alert your friends and family in this very public format: what would you love to unwrap this year?
Duo cooking lessons with my husband! I am obsessed with the show Chopped and Chopped Junior on the Food Network, and we just got all this amazing kitchen stuff from our wedding registry. Time to spice it up!
See more from all our Gifted Givers.
