Lauren and Matt tell us about their island paradise wedding, on a beautiful, blue-sky day.

The Scene: July 22, Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas

When we were deciding where to celebrate our marriage—the start of the rest of our lives together—we couldn’t think of a more perfect place than Maui. The island has a special meaning to us because it was the first trip we took together as a couple, and where we started to look at engagement rings!

We envisioned a vacation for everyone attending. Our friends and family are scattered all over the world and although it would be difficult for some guests to come, we knew it would be a memorable trip for those able to make it, especially for those who had never been to Hawaii. Plus, it was impossible to think that anything could go wrong in paradise!

I sent pictures of ideas that I had and wanted to incorporate, and Matt asked for tiki torches for the reception and a ukulele player while I walked down the aisle. I hadn’t seen the flowers or the centerpieces before the wedding, but we knew the food would be great and an open bar at the beach would be a hit.

My Look: I wore the Nicole Miller V-Neck Textured Taffeta Trumpet Gown. I think I had been engaged for a week when I Googled “beachy wedding dresses” just to see what was out there. The Nicole Miller dress was the first image to show up, linked to the Nordstrom site. I fell in love and called the San Francisco Nordstrom immediately.

The dress hadn’t been brought into stores yet, but I asked to have it sent anyway. I took a guess on the size and it fit perfectly, no alterations needed! It was meant to be. I felt amazing in it!

I also wore sparkly Glint ‘Devyn’ heels and Nadri jewelry to accessorize my dress.

My Wedding Stylist: Heather Chavira, Nordstrom San Francisco Centre

Our experience was exceptional! Heather was organized and continuously followed up with me from the first moment I called about the dress. She has a great eye, and really got to know me and what I was envisioning. Once I met her, I knew I should stick to Nordstrom for bridesmaid dresses and groom/groomsmen wedding attire as well.

I went with made-to-order Dessy convertible wrap dresses in coral for the bridesmaids. I adore the fact that they can be worn multiple ways, making them fit any body type beautifully. I gave the girls free reign on weather they wanted to shorten the dresses, so we had a range of lengths.

Since we chose the beach for the ceremony and reception, it only made sense that Matt and the groomsmen dressed casually for the warm weather. They went with John W. Nordstrom Supima cotton tan pants with Façonnable linen shirts and chocolate brown Rainbow flip-flops.

When you work with a company full of friendly faces and “can do” attitudes, it helps relieve the bride and groom of a little stress because they can trust the people they are working with!

Our Favorite Moments: What we wanted for the day was simple: just an ocean backdrop for wedding pictures, fabulous food and Mai Tais. We were ecstatic to be married and we wanted everyone to feel that as well!

I couldn’t have been more pleased. The colors of the flowers were unreal, as well as the weather, our photographer and event planner. I felt more at ease than I could’ve ever imagined.
