destination wedding

Maybe you’ve been planning this day for as long as you can remember. Or perhaps you’re in a swivet about what to do or how you’re ever going to get it done—it’s a lot of work!

Sit down. Breathe deeply. Then allow these supremely gorgeous North American wedding venues to transport you. A little daydreaming could inspire the direction of your dream wedding. Or you may just find a new happy place to mentally retreat to for a dose of zen.

The Surf Lodge

The Surf Lodge

Montauk attracts Brooklynites looking to put sand between their toes and waves beneath their boards. Although the town draws crowds (it’s sometimes referred to as the Hamptons for hipsters), it maintains a tranquil cool that befits any wedding. The Surf Lodge offers both indoor and outdoor spaces to stage your ceremony or soirée. Whether on a sunny deck, beachside or in their clapboard restaurant, your partnership will benefit from good vibrations.

There’s something so delightful about a garden wedding. Anything alfresco is bound to be on the more relaxed side—usually with elegant touches of whimsy.

If you’ve got an invite for a garden soirée, we’d suggest opting for a simple, brightly colored dress in knee or tea length. Since you’ll be letting all that beautiful color do the talking, go with neutral accessories—classic earrings, stacked bracelets, etc. Heels, of course, are a must, but reach for a nude wedge—it’ll ensure you don’t start sinking into grassy terrain.

We love a beach wedding. What could be more romantic than saying “I do” with waves lapping and the sun setting in the background? Thankfully almost any event that takes place shoreside means the rules of dress are a little more relaxed—who knows what might happen with all that sand and water everywhere.

So, what to wear that walks the line between beach bum and black tie?

We suggest a breezy, vibrant maxi dress with a high/low hemline. If your trip requires an overnight stay, stick to wrinkle-averse jersey knits (lace or sequins are also less temperamental). Keep your accessories simple (the bride’s the one who should be making a statement here); try something gold with colored enameled accents like coral, turquoise or white, and don’t forget a lightweight scarf for breeze and sun protection.

Chic, flat sandals are a must for the beach, as are sunglasses and a pretty tote for carting your camera, H2O, sunscreen etc.

If you’ve got a guy who needs some help, the same idea applies of a put-together casual look. Summer-weight suits or suit separates and a white, textured or patterned button down look sharp while keeping their cool. Loafers or boat shoes and a classic-looking pair of sunglasses finish off a plus-one-worthy outfit that’s unstuffy, but totally dapper.
