Wedding Color Ideas

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! To honor the color of luck, we’re offering a few ways to incorporate green into your wedding color palette, no matter the time of year.

Flowers are an obvious go-to, but there are a number of unconventional ways you can add shades of green—from mint to lime, to kelly and pine—into your big day.

A light backdrop for your favorite quote, or adorable bottles of green (!) lemonade.

A gorgeous outdoor canopy or shabby-chic mint seats.

Rosemary makes an easy, earthy accent for name cards and DIY table runners.

Not to mention, of course, bright standout shades for the wedding party…

Warm, romantic, and seasonal, a very berry affair is our current wedding obsession. We put together this collage of red, purple and pink ideas—taking inspiration from the many shades of raspberries, huckleberries and blackberries.

This look is all about using several different hues. Mix and match bridesmaid dresses like the real wedding below and create bouquets that look just-picked from the garden. If you’re the one wearing the wedding dress, don’t be afraid to carry the shades through to your own makeup and nail color, too—delicious!

The color grey may have gotten a bad rep in the past for being a gloomy color, but we think it’s anything but! In fact, grey is often our favorite neutral, as it pairs perfectly with so many other colors and can be dressed up or down. (Plus, we all know how many different shades there are, right?!)

Not only is this color trending for bridesmaid dresses—note the light, airy styles below—but it’s also having a major moment in men’s suits. Many grooms opt for grey over traditional black for a slightly less formal look. And just like yellow, grey against a white wedding dress is clean, modern combination.

Another of-the-moment touch: jewelry that incorporates iridescent grey stones set in gold. Gorgeous!

With fall and winter approaching comes a shift in wedding color palettes, and we’re seeing jewel tones as a big trend. Who wouldn’t love colors inspired by jewels like rich ruby, amethyst, topaz, emerald and sapphire–we’ll take the gems and the dresses both, please!

Our Wedding Stylists recommend mixing the new shades of our exclusive ML Monique Lhuillier Ruched Cationic Chiffon Sheath among your bridal party. Consider letting each bridesmaid choose her own color, and don’t worry if you repeat colors in a larger group. You can anchor the mixed shades with black shoes or matching bouquets.

See more ideas for bridesmaid styles in our new bridesmaid lookbook!

It’s safe to say that coral has been one of THE colors in weddings this year, and while it may not be brand-new, we’re still loving it! Inspired by shades found in nature, a coral palette works best in spring, summer or fall, with the shade tweaked slightly depending on the season.

As we head into the end of summer (say it isn’t so!), we’re loving coral in the new Jenny Yoo styles for bridesmaid dresses (in ‘Paprika’), as well as in chunky, bold jewelry and in accessories mixed with gold. Oh, and don’t forget the fresh peaches as décor—and dessert!

Sunny yellow is one of the most “smiley” colors there is: you can’t help but feel happy looking at all these bright and fresh images!

Have you ever noticed how great yellow and white look together? This must be why it’s such a popular accent color for weddings. Just look at that cake (yum!) or the yellow roses against a white wedding dress—so clean and crisp.

In bridesmaid dresses, solid yellow is pretty in a lace shift like this Jenny Yoo dress, satin strapless like this Alfred Sung dress or a mixed-media fit-and-flare like this Ted Baker London frock.

For jewelry, shoes and accessories, play with yellow in geometric or floral patterns to mix it up!

And don’t forget the flowers: roses, daisies, sunflowers, peonies, ranunculi and lilies are some of our favorite yellow-hued buds.

Oh, lovely lavender! One of the prettiest and freshest smells, colors and of course, wedding ideas. From the palette to the flower, there are many ways to tie in lavender to your wedding theme.

In decor, use fresh or dried lavender to decorate the cake, dress up a menu or place card, or shower the bride and groom as they exit. It’s also perfect for a simple boutonniere or added to a bouquet. (We also just heard of a wedding where each guest took a sprig of lavender and placed it in a circle for the bride and groom to stand within during the ceremony–a symbol of their support. Sweet idea, isn’t it?)

For attire and accessories, think lavender-hued shoes in patent leather or satin, long or short bridesmaid dresses and mixed-shade jewelry. Lavender can also be used like a neutral, mixed with silver, gold or even pops of brighter colors.

Did you know? Lavender blooms in the early summer. The darker the flower, the more intense the smell! It’s best to gather blossoms as soon as they open, or cut the whole stem to dry and use later.

I remember being at a bit of a loss when it came to color selection for my big day. I mean, I’ve never been one of those girls who’s had a favorite color all her life – more like the one who switches up favorites every year! White and gold is the perfect palette – white, containing all the colors of the spectrum, at the same time dazzling yet innocent, light, and pure; and rich, sunny, glamorous gold. Go ahead, it’ll be stunning.

We’re loving the inspiration over at REVEL so much, we asked Chief Reveler, Saukok Tiampo to be a regular guest contributor for the Wedding Suite Blog…and she very graciously accepted. Here’s the first of many posts to come!

At REVEL we’re celebrating cooler weather with teal and natural greens, paired with wood surfaces and a touch of gold. Whoever said greens were for warm weather weddings never saw these olive branches, rosemary and eryngium (the spiky flowers) nestled with cream-colored blooms!

I’m not one to wade through lots of stores searching for a needle in the haystack–make this look yours with these lovelies from Nordstrom’s Wedding Suite:
