wedding party

In our latest photo shoot, we wanted to capture an elegant theme all throughout the wedding party, to inspire brides- and grooms-to-be with the whole picture of a grand affair. Set in a downtown hotel, the wedding party attire is modern and polished, with vintage-inspired touches.

For the bride: The V-neck, V-back ‘Eva’ gown is one of our favorites (remember this post on Gatsby style?) and for good reason: the wrapped bodice and slightly off-the-shoulder sleeves are incredibly flattering, and the silk charmeuse fabric is formal but not fussy. See more lovely gowns from Caroline DeVillo in the lookbook.

Accent this dress with a floral headband, major chandelier earrings and cuff bracelet from Nina, and sparkly lace T-strap shoes from Ivanka Trump.

For the groom: A tailored black tux like the HUGO ‘Aikin Hollo’ makes for a dashing and dapper groom, adding a slim-cut Hugo Boss tux shirt and classic bow tie. For a black-tie affair, matching the groomsmen in black suits and ties (long or bow) brings a modern look we love.

For the bridesmaids: We love the Donna Morgan ‘Laura’ style for its effortless grace. The strapless, floor sweeping gown comes in both regular and plus sizes, and is now in 15 different colors! ‘Amethyst’ is gorgeous paired with the dark red in the bouquets.

For the mother of: A formal wedding calls for a sophisticated gown for the mother of the bride or groom, like this unique Adrianna Papell style. We love the mix of layers in the asymmetrically-cut skirt and the lace cap-sleeve top.

For the little ones: The flower girl and ring bearer are dressed to impress: him in a Joseph Abboud suit and her in an Us Angels lace dress. We love how they mimic the look of the bride and groom!

We’re telling today’s Real Wedding story with a bit of a twist! Jared and Stephanie got married on June 7 in a rustic, casual affair at Red Horse Barn in Huntington Beach, CA. To outfit their awesome wedding party, they worked with their Nordstrom Men’s Shop stylist Josh! Read on for details.

From Stephanie: Our vision for our wedding day was to have a big celebration where everyone would be able to enjoy themselves, eat great food and dance the night away! To accomplish this, we went with a rustic outdoor inspiration that created a relaxed and casual vibe.

At first, the planning was a little tough because I was still in school and Jared was working full time in Orange County. However, once we set our minds to making decisions about colors, rentals, catering, etc., we plunged forward and didn’t look back to second-guess any of our decisions. I had lots of help from my sister and my sister-in-law getting the whole vision to come together. We dreamed up ideas for centerpieces and décor and then went to flea markets and garage sales to collect things that would fit our rustic theme.

To create our wedding party looks, we worked with Josh Boudreau at Nordstrom South Coast Plaza, in the Men’s Shop. His expertise definitely helped take all of the attire to a much greater level than we could have envisioned without him.

The bridesmaids wore matching Calvin Klein dresses: silk chiffon with rosette-detailed bodices, in a mint color that matched my mint shoes! The girls each chose their own nude or tan wedges and wore pearl bracelets.

Josh helped Jared and the groomsmen pick out which colors would work best together, and he helped us find the right fit of the pants and shirts as well. The groomsmen wore grey Topman dress pants and gingham print Calibrate shirts in black and white with mint ties. Jared wore a Topman jacket and pants with the same shirt and tie.

Jared and I didn’t see each other the day of the wedding, until I made my way down the aisle. That was one of my favorite things—getting to step out and surprise him and take it all in as I walked toward the man of my dreams!

When the reception started, we finally got to see our vision come to fruition, and things turned out better than we could have ever imagined. It was amazing to see everyone who had come out to celebrate with us and support our new adventure in life!

“Capturing great wedding party portraits is essential for a properly-documented wedding. After all, these bridesmaids and groomsmen were hand-selected by the bride and groom, and are therefore a very important element in their special occasion!

Here, we’ve rounded up inspiration in posing, grouping, locations, styles and more. Some are traditional, some are playful. Some tell a story, and some are more formal. Whichever the case, all of the images are of fun, amazing couples (documented by our talented wedding photographers) that should help get the wheels turning for planning your own wedding party shoot. Enjoy!”

You know that moment at a wedding, after all the romantic words have been said, glasses have been raised, the cake has been cut, and finally, everyone—from the bride and groom to Grandma and Grandpa—is on the dance floor getting down. Music is pumping, shoes are kicked off, hips are shaking, hands are in the air, the maid of honor is showing off her moonwalk, Uncle Bob is breaking out the robot…

The Nordstrom Weddings team loves that moment of energy and joy on the dance floor. We want to celebrate like that every day with our friends and family! So, we thought we’d bring the best wedding dance party to life.

We got our official dance squad (aka: our own employees with some serious moves) to rock out to a track we’re sure will be the next wedding anthem: “And We Danced” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—who just happened to do a little rocking out themselves in a special cameo appearance.

The result? You’ll have to see it for yourself!

We had brides-to-be, married couples and single ladies and guys all dressed up in our favorite big day looks—including new wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses from our Wedding Suites.

We also want to say a special CONGRATS to Macklemore and his new fiancée! We’re so excited for the happy couple—and we totally offer to send our dance squad to his wedding. We have a feeling that would be a dance party for the record books!

Molly, our Weddings Site Merchandiser—and one of our resident recent newlyweds—asked if she could gush for just a minute about Anna Elyse bridesmaid dresses. Your Blog Editor’s response? Gush away, Molly!

The rest of the Weddings Team and I are thrilled to be partnering with Annie from Anna Elyse Bridesmaids this spring. Annie knows how to get all the girls in your bridal party into beautiful dresses that are both bride- and bridesmaid-approved!

What’s to love? First of all, these are all wear-again worthy. Yes! I also adore the feminine silhouettes, the perfectly elegant silk charmeuse choices (right at home in the garden or at the Four Seasons), and my favorite, a convertible style in so many colors!

As a bride, it’s amazing to be able to give lots of flattering bridesmaid options with just one dress while staying true to your wedding vision. The convertible version ties multiple ways so your ‘maids can choose a look that suits their style and body type the best. Plus, it’s so easy to switch up that it’s a totally new dress for her next cocktail soirée (nothing like those cookie-cutter formal gowns from weddings of yesteryear—i.e., something you’ll never want to wear again. Anyone else have to suffer through hot pink puff-sleeves?).

Personally, I’m loving the luxe garnet, but how about the slate green for an icy winter wonderland look, or the pale yellow for an estate-garden fête? Check out all the colors online, with even more available for special order at your closest Wedding Suite.

So many colors and styles to choose from. Seriously, did I mention I love it?!

As our Wedding Suites are set to open in selected Nordstrom stores, our customers are already taking the plunge. Read André and Em’s wedding-dress success story.

If you’re a bride-to-be, your wedding day will be one of your most joyous days—and the time you spend shopping for it should reflect the happy occasion to come. That’s why we want to make shopping for you and the whole wedding party an experience you’ll remember almost as much as your big day. We’ve introduced you to our Wedding Stylists, and now we’re excited to announce the impending opening of our first Wedding Suites.

Fully appointed with gowns, bridesmaid dresses, comfy seating for the whole party, extra-large fitting rooms and so much more, our Wedding Suites are the perfect place to sit down with our stylists and make the day of your dreams a reality.

Meet André and Em. We came across their story and were so thrilled to read about their experience while shopping for a dress—with both of their mothers!—in our Tyson’s Corner store in Virginia.

André writes: “A few weekends ago, both of our moms came to town to help Em find a wedding dress. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, right?”

“Our first stop was Nordstrom. My mom was ecstatic to be part of this experience, as she never thought she would be part of wedding-dress shopping. Em and I decided that we wanted both moms to be part of the decision-making process, so Em’s mom helped her in the dressing room while my mom and I anxiously awaited. The first dress she tried on was one that the stylist has chosen for her based on the dresses that Em had ordered. When my mom and I were allowed in the dressing room, I was in awe. She looked absolutely amazing and I would have married her that minute if I could have. Em said she felt beautiful in the dress as well but she wanted to try the others on. The moms thought she looked good but they weren’t convinced.

Em tried on the remaining dresses, but nothing compared to the first one. She felt and looked stunning in the first one when she tried it on again and the moms agreed this time. As she tried on accessories and everyone talked about how she would have her hair, etc., I just stood there and felt like the luckiest guy in the world.

We ended up purchasing the first dress she tried on and canceled our other appointment…It was unbelievably easy to find a dress that day—in less than an hour we made our purchase! It was also awesome to watch the moms bond that weekend. They acted like two old friends, exchanging ideas about the wedding dresses, centerpieces, accessories, etc. I never would have dreamed that wedding-dress shopping could be so easy!”

The dresses in Em’s dressing room are pictured at left…and the winner? A gorgeous Tadashi One-Shoulder Rosette Chiffon Gown. We’re so happy for Em and André, and wish them all the best!

You’ve kissed the groom, and now it’s time to party. No matter what kind of reception you have planned, a short bridal dress is the savvy bride’s best friend.

Not convinced? Imagine wrestling with your gown’s train all night. Or guarding your floor-length hem against happily dancing feet. And that bustle simply can’t be comfortable to sit on during dinner service.

Clearly, slipping into a cocktail- or tea-length vision in white is a smart move for when it’s time to cut the cake, toss the bouquet and kick up your heels. Plus, the shorter hemline guarantees that everyone can check out your fabulous shoes.

Find pretty-perfect simplicity with this rosette-embellished Eliza J Shantung Dress, with its figure-flattering A-line skirt that’s closer to a classic tea-length than cocktail length. The deconstructed, yet still demure, texture of the BCBGMAXAZRIA Strapless Appliqué Dress creates a look with just the right mix of drama and versatility. For a sleeker shape with a touch of vintage chic, go for the JS Boutique Lace Dress or the Eliza J Jacquard Sheath Dress.

So why not plan for a quick change after you’ve exchanged vows? After all, it’s your big day—what better time to make two grand entrances?
